Huge dynamics and very underrated at 60 watts per channel. Industrial in its' build quality. With a recapping this unit is a small monster with fantastic channel separation and is hugely dynamic. Must be paired up with the Citation 11 or Citation 17 pre amp to receive the full power band width. I use the C17 with the C12 and it is awesome. I used a Harman Kardon 330b with a full service / recap as a pre amp with the C12 and it felt like the C12 was only delivering a fraction of its' dynamic power. I acquired the C17 pre amp and this opened the dynamic flood gates of the C12.
Wonderful sound quality and huge dynamics. Harman Kardon is so hugely underrated and is always left on the back burner when folks talk about Marantz or McIntosh. I have yet to find a Marantz that can out perform the C17 with C12.
Flashy looks aren't everything. Reviewed May 15th, 2016 by I bought it cheap in second hand in ebay. The first listen was poor. I replace all caps electrolitics by new and bigger capacity. The amp has changed completely. The bass is incredible firm dynamic and clear.
It is very difficult to find a better amp on the bass for a reasonable amount of Money. The midrange and treble was not so good but decent.
Then I start to male some modifications. The input stage transistors were replace by a par of Fet’s 2sj74 very well paired.
You have to adapt a bit the transistors to the circuit. Don’t touch anything else because the way it was done it is perfect. After this modifications it become a very refined transistor amp. I have replaced my Hiraga 8w by it with big improve in the bass, dinamics and a small l loss in the mid /treble refinement.
It is perfect for vintage rock. Absolutely recomended.
